5 Quirky Garden Tools for your Shed

Now that spring is here, gardening supply stores are rolling out their new and improved garden tools. And while every garden shed has the standard favourites - shovels, spades, pruners, and the like - there are always some quirky garden tools that we would all love to try.

In honor of the truly weird garden tools out there, we’ve put together a list of some of the best quirky garden tools you’re likely to see this season.

Robo Lawn Mowers

Robo Lawn mowers

We’ve had roboanimated vaccuum cleaners in our homes for years, so it’s about time that someone invented a robo lawn mower. Okay sure, a lawn mower has blades and is maybe a bit more dangerous than a Roomba so we understand the delay. But now that it’s here, we’re so excited to try it.

Robo lawn mowers work just like those indoor automated vacuum cleaners. You set up hidden perameter wires in your yard, connect your robo lawn mower to your device through bluetooth, program it, and then let the robot do its thing. The robo lawn mower moves in a random zigzag pattern so that your lawn looks uniformly cut without lines, and it will even take care of the edges so that you don’t need to use a line trimmer. Interestingly, there’s no need for bagging because these high tech lawn mowers will cut up the grass so fine that the mulch can be left on the lawn as a natural fertilizer.

Safety is a top priority for these amazing little machines. Most of them have a built-in shut off so that children and pets are safe - the robot will pause and wait for the moving object to move out of their way.

You don’t even have to worry about going to fetch your robo mower when it runs out of charge. Your smart little lawn mower will come on home when it needs a rest and recharge. Then, it will go right back out to finish the job.

One thing that we love about these robotic lawn mowers is that they actually take up less space in the garden shed. There are no handles, so you could store these little bots right on a shelf in your shed. That’s great if you’re trying to maximize the space in your garden shed.

Honestly, we’re pretty enamoured with the idea of a robo lawn mower. You can find us using that extra time in the garden or converting our backyard shed the entertainment centre we’ve always wanted.

Now that robot lawn mowers are on the market, you can find a lot of options. Check out a guide on some of the top-rated models.

Aerator Sandals

Okay, hear us out: footwear that can aerate your lawn. Instead of trying to use those painstaking hand aerators or investing in one of those huge aerator machines that take up valuable space in your shed for most of the year, aerator sandals are a compact and easy-to-use solution.

You just strap them to your shoes and go for a leisurely stroll around your lawn. Alright, you will probably attract some pretty funny looks from the neighbours but who cares! You’re doing something good for your lawn, and you can do it with a cup of coffee in hand.

And hey, why do the work alone when you can gather a group of owners of quirky garden tools to do it together? You could start a community group of aerator sandal owners to go from house to house aerating lawns in record time.

These strap-on aerator sandals are popping up anywhere where you might buy garden tools. You can even find them at your local Bunnings.

Personalised Water Mister

If you’ve been looking to add more elegance to your garden shed, a personalised water mister is an absolute must.

Hardtofind is selling the cutest, quirkiest little water mister you never knew you needed. It’s made of ceramic and gold plastic and you’ll want to take it outside with you every time you garden. Some people spend money on luxury cars and meals at fancy restaurants. You fill your garden shed with elegant water misters because you deserve to feel like royalty when you garden.

Quirky Water Sprinklers

If you’ve never heard of the Wobble-Tee Sprinkler, be ready for a quirky garden tool that you’re going to want to buy. It may look like a child’s toy, but this brightly coloured water sprinkler is ahead of competition when it comes to innovative watering solutions.

Here’s how it works. The Wobble-Tee uses uniformly large water droplets, unlike other water sprinklers that may spray or mist your lawn. This is actually more water-efficient because it prevents evaporation, and allows your lawn to soak up as much water as possible.

Each water sprinkler unit has a base with three limbs, which looks weird but is genius. With this design, you can split your sprinkler system and cover more ground.

So, they’re functional, good for the environment, and they come in a variety of quirky colours. Wobble-Tee, you’re doing great.

Sustainable Sprout Pencil

Okay, you got us. This might not fall into the category of garden tools, but you’re still going to want it for your garden.

The sustainable sprout pencil from the Potting Shed Garden Tools is a perfectly normal pencil for most of its life. But then, just when you’re ready to throw it away, this pencil has a surprise for you. Plant the stub of your worn down sustainable sprout pencil in some dirt and it will grow a new plant. These pencils come with the plant seeds of your choice - rosemary, mint, basil, and thyme.
